As a thanks, Appcelerator would like to send a cool Appcelerator T-Shirt and some stickers.
Jeff,

Wow, you really stay on top of what the community is saying about you. About ten minutes elapsed between my post on my little-known blog and your comment in response. Kudos!

Your answer is completely fair, and my criticism is probably totally paranoid. Putting community-building before revenue-generation is the way open source companies do things, and is not be criticized, at least not by me. But being public with a "Hey, we're going to have SDK stuff to sell next year!" sort of message would probably stop the fantasies of the paranoiacs—the medicated ones, at least—if such actually exist. :)

Hey Tim,

Thanks for the nice summary. As far as revenue model, we're really focused on building out our technology and our community at this point. However, we do have a revenue plan for value-added new products around the SDK that we hope to introduce next year. The SDK will always remain free and open and we will continue to build and innovate there. Our opinion is that the SDK for building apps must remain free, open and extensible.
